A fifth week of fantasy football is upon us! We ask that this week brings us all a plentiful harvest of touchdowns and pass catches as we look to trample our opponents this week.
A lot of questions surround this week in the fantasy world of quarterbacks. Cam Newton could easily be our top option against Tampa Bay at home, but question marks about his health as he is still going through concussion protocol hold us back from this choice. He did not practice today (Thursday) and has yet to be cleared, as far as we know. Carolina will be releasing their injury reports this afternoon, and the Cam picture should become clearer.
Brady is back. For a lot of you Brady owners that have been struggling with you backups, fret no more. Tom Brady returns to take on the poor Cleveland browns in Cleveland. Despite all the talk about the Pats running game, Brady being rust, Gronk not being 100%, I say start Brady all the way. He is back with a vengeance and can’t wait to put on a show. The Browns are perfect candidates for a Brady beating.
Andrew Luck, Ben Roethliesberger, and Aaron Rodgers are probably my next best three. They all have pretty favorable matchups as Ben takes on the Jets at home, and Luck has the Bears in town. I know I predicted a Chargers Saints shootout last week that really did not happen, but I am going to predict another this week to redeem myself. Sunday Night football. Giants. Packers. I think Eli, Odell, and MY Giants put it together on the offensive end this week, simultaneously as Rodgers torches the secondary. I say 4 touchdowns for each quarterback, and 2 for OBJ. I am extra excited for this one because I will be home from school for fall break and it will be the first game of the season I will get to watch from the comfort of my living room reclining chair. Ah.
Bye weeks are also now in full swing. We will see Carson Wentz and Aaron Rodgers back in action after their week of rest, while Drew Brees, Alex Smith, Blake Bortles, and Russell Wilson will all be enjoying the off week. Those are some big name QB’s, so I have some backup suggestions if they are available to you.
Joe Flacco: Owned in just 38.9% of leagues has a pretty good matchup against Washington, and is projected 16 points.
Jameis Winston: Going up against the rival Panthers who were completely torched last week by Matt Ryan may just be the recipe for a big week. He is projected 15 points and I owned in under 60% of leagues.
My sleeper of the week last week was Brian Hoyer in his game against the Lions. That one turned out alright. Hoyer threw for 302 yards, 2 touchdowns, and scored 20 points. He was a top 10 finisher for week 4. Can I say I told you so? Well not just yet because my sleeper this week is not so far off from last, or more like not any different.
Sleeper of the week: Brian Hoyer
I am going with him again! Owned in just 11.2 percent of leagues and coming off back to back weeks that he has thrown for over 300 yards, Hoyer is set to have another good game against the Colts. Hoyer may even be a better option than both Winston and Flacco. I am high on Hoyer and I am going to predict another 20+ point week for the Bear.
Best of luck this week!
